I just abruptly cut a lot of sugar and artificial sweeteners from my diet. I stopped putting sugar in my tea and quit eating sweets and drinking soft drinks. I've been having fresh fruit for snacks and I'm working on doing something about the nutritionary values of my meals.

The funny thing is that I only started on Monday and already the fruit seem to taste sweeter than they used to, and what used to be my favourite juice tastes entirely too sweet (technically I quit that juice too, but I had a carton in the fridge that needed finishing).

I'm very interested to see how this goes. I've "quit sweets" before, but never like this and never with this kind of results. So far I've had no cravings for the stuff I've cut out, either, but as I said, it's only been three days.

So my parents are cleaning their storage space and getting rid of useless things.

And they happened upon the box of stuffed toys that I packed away when I moved. And the thing is, I can't take them because I don't even have enough space for the things I already have. But I'd be loath to have them just thrown away because some of them have sentimental value and the ones that don't are relatively new and in pristine condition (having been bought by me in my teens for decoration and not for playing with).

Then again, maybe it's time to learn to throw things away. Or at least book a flea market table.

Huh. Snowfall and thunder. You don't see that every day. :D

And this is no small amount of snow in the air, either; I can barely see across the street from my window.

"I do not feel that "bitches" is sexist. A bitch is a female dog. I'm pretty certain that 90% of women are confident enough in themselves to realize that they are in fact -NOT- a female dog"

I'm sorry, WHAT?

This is such a bizarre defense. The whole point of insults is that they belittle their target in some way. When people liken other people to animals, they do not do it to make the insulted party question their species, they do it to imply that they have the same amount of importance in society as an animal would.

Another claim I heard today is that "bitch" isn't sexist because it's used to insult men, too. Sure it's said to men, too, but think for a second about what the implication is when a man is called that. It implies that he is weak-willed and submissive, in other words, not in possession of traits that are considered manly. "To make someone your bitch" is to make them submit to you. The word is sexist even when used towards men, because it likens them to women (who are simultaneously likened to animals) and in order to be insulting, there needs to be an underlying notion that women are inferior to men, which is what sexism is.

Is "faggot" also not a homophobic insult because it's used towards straight men, too, and most of them are confident enough in their sexuality that they know they are not homosexual?

I just. I can't follow the reasoning of these people.

So way back when I came back from my Christmas vacation in January, I found the room temperature of my apartment to be 17 Celcius (62 F [wow that sounds so warm in Fahrenheit]). My radiators had air in them (again) and weren't heating the place properly. I've been putting off calling the superintendent ever since, opting to instead wrap myself up in blankets. :D

But today I finally got around to making the call, and when I got home from class I could instantly tell it was warmer, and my thermometer says it's now 21 C inside. \o/ It's also oddly quiet now that the ever-present trickling sound is gone.

So...much...snow. x_x

We had to shovel the driveway THREE TIMES today and I think it still hasn't stopped snowing (it's dark out so it's hard to tell). We so deserved that sauna afterwards.

[livejournal.com profile] tuinen, you were smart not to come over this weekend. I mean YEESH.

So I'm back from Alabasta Uldum Egypt. Picspammy post will follow later when I've sorted through my pictures and edited them for posting. I may also post about my time there at some point.

Right now, I've not slept properly in 26 hours, but I got maybe an hour of sleep on the second flight so I don't feel too exhausted.

Funny how the holiday season gets you into baking mood. I'm not that into Christmas in general, and I'm very much not fond of most Christmas foods, but I do like the baked goods.

*sigh* I'm in class and bored out of my mind. The printer is malfunctioning so we can't print, and people are going home because there's not much else to do since we don't have new assignments. I can't, though, because I have a workshop here in the afternoon and I'm not biking all the way home just to come back an hour later. x__x So I'm stuck here killing time by gossiping and listening one of my more techno-phobic classmates freak the fuck out over the printer (I love her, but she gets frustrated over these things oh-so-easily). Haha.

On the up side, I just got a notification that my order of Cataclysm has been shipped! Only I don't know if I should expect it to arrive tomorrow or on the 7th. (Monday is Finland's independece day, so no mail will be arriving then).
mipeltaja: (Oh noes!)
First snow! D:

To soon, Executus! Too soon!

WTF.

Okay, so my fridge is, like, really cold. It's so cold I've taken to keeping a water bottle in it because the water just doesn't come out the tap that cold. I've tried fiddling with the thermostat but it doesn't feel like it's doing anything.

So today, I go into the kitchen and open the fridge, and... the opened pepsi bottle looks weird. I look closer and see that it's half-frozen. It's sitting on my desk as I type because I just can't stop WTF-ing at it. There was another, unopened bottle right next to the frozen one, and it was fine. I've got several other liquids in the fridge, such as the aforementioned water bottle and a plastic container full of pineapple chunks in juice. None of those seemed abnormaly cold at all, just this one mostly-full 1,5L bottle sitting in the middle of everything.

Oh, Internet connection, how I missed you. Come, let us kiss with tongues!

So, yeah, I'm back in the game. (literally, from the WoW point of view :D)
mipeltaja: (Oh noes!)
Aaand I'm back at my own place and still waiting for my new modem to arrive (I'm getting my internet through cable now, so my old phone line modem won't work), so still no Internet for me. :(

I guess I'll just surf in class like I'm doing now. I hope the modem arrives today or tomorrow, though. I'm in the middle of an animation course and I like to watch other people's animations for inspiration.

So! first actual day in the new apartment. I got kind of lost on my way home from school, lol. I'm still not sure about the shortest route to the Uni, but at least I've discovered a route that doesn't make any unnecessary zigzags or anything.

Still got to get my internet connection here. I'm currently using my sister's mobile Internet because she doesn't need it atm. I also have loads of unpacking to do and a bookshelf to put together, but I'm not sure how much of that I'll have the energy to do today. To be perfectly honest I'm not even sure if I can summon the will to cook. :V

ANYWAY if I'm not around much in the next few days, it's because I've got STUFF TO DO OMG.
mipeltaja: (Maggey)
Okay so now I've snagged a new apartment. It's bigger and in better shape than my old one, but also further away from my school. It's not as dreamy as the one I gushed about a while back, but it's cheaper. Also it has a freezer, which is luxury to me.
mipeltaja: (Default)
That apartment I had my eye on went to someone else. OH WELL ~ I'll keep looking I guess.

Meanwhile, One Piece chapter 593 )
mipeltaja: (OMG)
OMGOMGOMG

So I'm moving out of my current apartment, which is too expensive for its size and condition, though I don't have a new apartment yet.

BUT. I may be able to snag one that's almost twice as big, with a BALCONY, has had some work done on it recently and is even closer to my school than my current one! The rent wouldn't really be any lower, but I'd be getting so much more for my money. *_____*

Course, I haven't even seen it yet and there may be some fatal flaw in it, but on paper it sounds absolutely amazing. Also there's no guarantee I'll be getting it, but at least it hasn't been rented out yet. *___*

ETA: Went to see the aforementioned apartment. The balcony is a joke, but that's not a biggie. All I needed was the door to let fresh air in if I so chose. :D It's pretty much an upgrade from my current one in every possible way, and the bathroom is a DREAM~. Compared to the cramped, gray, dinky one in my current place.

BUT YOU GUYS I am so horrible about interacting with people ;A; I don't want to have to take care of all of this stuff and call places and meet people about business. I get this horrible anxious feeling and I'm usually okay when I get to the part where I'm talking to a person, but contacting them is terrifying.
mipeltaja: (Nathan: Expressing myself)
Today, I passed an Uchiha Itachi in the street. And I don't mean "someone who kind of resembled Itachi", I mean a guy wearing an actual Akatsuki cloak, with a scraped Konoha headband and with lines drawn under his eyes. He was in the company of another Akatsuki-cloak-guy, but if the other guy was supposed to be some specific character, his cosplay was pretty lame.

The weird thing is, I have absolutely no explanation why someone would have been hanging out around the mall in cosplay. I saw no other cosplayers, there are no cons in this city, and Kitacon in the neighbouring city was weeks ago. There are a number of yearly celebrations during which you could expect to come across people in costumes, but none of them are this month.

I guess there's no reason why he couldn't walk about in cosplay if he felt like it, but it just seems so random.

So, yeah, confuzzled.
