I just abruptly cut a lot of sugar and artificial sweeteners from my diet. I stopped putting sugar in my tea and quit eating sweets and drinking soft drinks. I've been having fresh fruit for snacks and I'm working on doing something about the nutritionary values of my meals.

The funny thing is that I only started on Monday and already the fruit seem to taste sweeter than they used to, and what used to be my favourite juice tastes entirely too sweet (technically I quit that juice too, but I had a carton in the fridge that needed finishing).

I'm very interested to see how this goes. I've "quit sweets" before, but never like this and never with this kind of results. So far I've had no cravings for the stuff I've cut out, either, but as I said, it's only been three days.

Huh. Snowfall and thunder. You don't see that every day. :D

And this is no small amount of snow in the air, either; I can barely see across the street from my window.

So way back when I came back from my Christmas vacation in January, I found the room temperature of my apartment to be 17 Celcius (62 F [wow that sounds so warm in Fahrenheit]). My radiators had air in them (again) and weren't heating the place properly. I've been putting off calling the superintendent ever since, opting to instead wrap myself up in blankets. :D

But today I finally got around to making the call, and when I got home from class I could instantly tell it was warmer, and my thermometer says it's now 21 C inside. \o/ It's also oddly quiet now that the ever-present trickling sound is gone.

So...much...snow. x_x

We had to shovel the driveway THREE TIMES today and I think it still hasn't stopped snowing (it's dark out so it's hard to tell). We so deserved that sauna afterwards.

[livejournal.com profile] tuinen, you were smart not to come over this weekend. I mean YEESH.
mipeltaja: (Pompadour: I am above you)
Funny how the holiday season gets you into baking mood. I'm not that into Christmas in general, and I'm very much not fond of most Christmas foods, but I do like the baked goods.

So! first actual day in the new apartment. I got kind of lost on my way home from school, lol. I'm still not sure about the shortest route to the Uni, but at least I've discovered a route that doesn't make any unnecessary zigzags or anything.

Still got to get my internet connection here. I'm currently using my sister's mobile Internet because she doesn't need it atm. I also have loads of unpacking to do and a bookshelf to put together, but I'm not sure how much of that I'll have the energy to do today. To be perfectly honest I'm not even sure if I can summon the will to cook. :V

ANYWAY if I'm not around much in the next few days, it's because I've got STUFF TO DO OMG.

01. Grab the nearest book.
02. Open the book to page 123.
03. Find the fifth sentence.
04. Post the text of the next 4-7 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
05. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest (unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1).
o6. Tag five people. as if. Just do it.

Muuten saattoi juuri sellaisissa tilanteissa nähdä, kuinka harvinaisen vakavasti herrat suhtautuvat ammattiinsa ja kuinka he joutuvat suureen epätoivoon kohdatessaan esteitä, joita he luonteensa takia eiväåt voi voittaa. Heidän asemansa ei ole muutenkaan helppo, ei saa tehdä heille sitä vääryyttä, että pitää heidän asemaansa helppona.

-Oikeusjuttu (original title Der Prozess) by Franz Kafka

And the nearest book in English:

It tended down towards the riverside, running through Belmont Place and Prince's Street. At the end of Broad Street it ran down right down to the water's edge, where there was a small wooden wharf. Toby Led us to the very edge of this and there stood whining, looking out on the dark current beyond.

"We are out of luck," said Holmes. "They have taken to a boat here."
Several small punts and skiffs were lying about in the water and on the edge of the wharf. We took Toby to each in turn, but though he sniffed earnestly he made no sign.

- The Sign of Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Wow now I get to look all smart just because I was too lazy to put that Kafka back in the shelf. Otherwise the nearest book would've been that paperback I bought for the train a couple of weeks ago.

mipeltaja: (Pompadour: I am above you)
Phew.

Just mailed my preliminary assignments to Turku. Here's to hoping I get invited to the entrance exam. :D If not, well, there's always Kajaani.

Anyway, now that's done, I can focus on the exhibition pieces again.

It's 4 in the morning and I'm taking Internet too seriously and feeling crappy because of it. Well, partly anyway. I think the other part of the reason is that I'm ill and feel crappy anyway. 8D

I thought learned not to let shitheads online get to me (I'm not going to elaborate, it's just some random Internet stranger, which makes my frustration even more ridiculous) a long time ago, but I guess I'm groggy and feverish and I CAN'T SLEEP ANYMORE BECAUSE MY BED IS ALWAYS EITHER TOO HOT OR TOO COLD and I'm a bit hungry but even the thought of food makes me nauseous so I don't have all my mental defenses in place or something. Ugh.

And I don't think I can afford to miss my classes tomorrow. Or technically today. Fffff.

Man, even the LJ ads seem to be making even less sense than usual.

ETA: Pheewww, the fever's gone down, and with it my anxiety. I was aware I was overreacting even when I wrote this but at the time I felt so overall horrible that I had to get it out of my system.
mipeltaja: (Oh noes!)
That's three times this year that I've forgotten I had put something in the oven and burned or at the very least lightly charred it.

I think this is where I invest in an egg timer. :|

Today, I tasted Root Beer for the first time in my life.

Being Finnish, I don't really have room to talk (I eat salmiakki and mämmi, after all) but is this stuff seriously as popular in America as popular culture would have me believe? It tastes plain weird to me.
mipeltaja: (Nami: ew)
Fuck yeah fever! I also have a cough.

I don't feel very sick though.

Let's see how this develops.

ETA: AHAHAHA I try to get some sleep and it turns out they've arranged a fireworks show practically next door. It started off sounding rather like a thunderstorm and escalated into BIG BOOMS that sound almost like we're being bombed. ♥ I love this town.

Oh well. I'm not that sleepy anyway.

Why has Google put a goth dating site advertisement on my LJ? I never talk about goth things or dating.

Weird.
mipeltaja: (Nami: ew)
I dislike the way the smell of one or more of my neighbours' cooking sometimes gets into my apartment. I have no clue how that happens, I just know that sometimes I smell foods that I've never had here.

Mostly it's just the smell of rich, spicy foods that makes me wish I had the money and inclination to make that kind of food.

Today, however, it's the smell of boiled cabbage. Ew.

It probably says a lot about how exciting my life is that the high point of my weekend was watching some Babar with my cousin/roommate.

This amount of excitement is perfectly all right with me, though, because I'm a thoroughly boring individual.
mipeltaja: (JUMALAUUUTA)

mipeltaja: (Nami: ew)
Blargh. Learning journals. They want those for every course these days. And I suck at writing them.

Oppimispäiväkirjat on perseestä. >:V

So I've been staying at my parents' since Sunday, seeing as how I've got no classes or anything this week.

Their Internet connection has been wobbly for a while and died on Tuesday. I'm actually writing this post from my grandparents' place. Incidentally, my grandmother's little poodle is really starting to show his age. :( He's been prone to coughing fits after running about (which he likes to do a lot) and just today, he seemed pretty dizzy after one of those fits. He swayed and generally looked very unsteady on his legs. Poor thing.

I bought a painting easel today, after years of pining for one. Also bought Guitar Hero yesterday, because nom. I will never get anything done ever again. I always seem to end up spending more money than I'm saving (in terms of food and such) when I visit home.

Been sketching a lot in the absence of the 'net, but I think those will have to wait until I'm back at my flat, with the reliable connection and everything.

Well, I guess that's all for now. Not sure when I'll be able to get online again. Peace out.
