Yeah so I went to class today and nothing happened at the Vocational School (to the best of my knowledge, anyway. My day ended at around noon). There were a lot of cops around, though, and our teacher opted to keep the classroom door locked even during class, which is hardly ever done.

I sincerely hope they figure out who wrote that message, because maybe a few hundred euros in fines and a thorough questioning will teach them to think twice the next time they have a brilliant idea.
I think the standard fine for a baseless threat is like 500€ plus compensation for the expences of the police activity taken. So this genius may well be looking at a 1000€ fine. I can't say I don't think they deserve it. Stirring up hysteria is not funny.

Okay, so apparently my old Vocational School is under a threat of some kind. They found a message in the boys' bathroom that said something was going to happen on October 1st. That's tomorrow. No one I've talked to knows the details of the message, but from what I've heard, it seems that the word "bloodbath" was mentioned. Since the University of Applied Sciences that I attend is in the same campus, I'm naturally considering staying home tomorrow.

On one hand, the threat is explicitly on the Vocational, and on the other, the only cafeteria is in the main building of the Vocational School, so I can't really avoid going there.

Then again, the more I hear of this, the more it's beginning to sound like some first-year moron's* idea of a good laugh. And yet... how can you really be sure? The school's got balls, though, as they've decided not to evacuate. There will be police present, of course, and whoever wrote the message is in deep shit, whether s/he intends to follow through or not.

*most first-years in the Vocational are sixteen. Not an age group noted for thinking their actions all the way through. That's why it sounds like a first-year to me.

For those of you who don't know, there was a school shooting in Finland last week and the hysteria hasn't died down yet. That's why these kinds of messages are being taken extremely seriously right now, and why pulling these sort of pranks, if it indeed is a prank, is an exceptionally stupid thing to do. Unfortunately, it's also why some geniuses get the bright idea to make these threats in jest.

Sigh... three years later, I'm still pathetic.

Art History. I went through this same course in Vocational three years ago. Same lecturer and everything. Back then, I stayed up until 2 AM writing an essay because it was due the next day and I hadn't had the good sense to, you know, start while I still had plenty of time.

This time I'm allowed to skip the lectures, but since we UAS students have an assignment the Vocational students didn't, I still need to do that to pass. That assignment is due tomorrow.

Now, logically thinking, I would have at least started on it sometime during the week I've had. But no, I didn't really start until six in the afternoon today, despite having the entire day off. It's nine o'clock now and I've got roughly a page written. The minimum is five pages. I'd probably have it done before midnight if I didn't keep wandering off to do things that realy can wait until tomorrow, honestly, just because I don't feel like just doing the damn assignment.

So basically, instead of just behaving like a sensible person and sitting down for a couple of hours and getting it done, I've wasted most of today putting it off.

And now I'm writing a journal entry about how I should be doing something entirely different. Procrastination FTL.

Well, I had a fun first day of UAS. I met someone new like ten minutes into the day and we hung together for the next five hours. And Kristiina was there, which is pretty wonderful because I thought she hadn't gotten in. Turns out she got in on a spare spot. Cool beans.

Beginning studies at the University of Applied Sciences tomorrow (or.. today, since it's already past midnight). I hope I've got everything I need ready. I even laid out the clothes I'm going to wear. I never do that, I just raid the closet in the morning for anything approximately appropriate for the weather.

So. Yeah. Pretty excited. I'll be able to hang with some old classmates, possibly even befriend some of my new classmates. Even though I'm horrible at making new acquaintances, haha, being kind of embarrassingly shy around new people.

Hokay. I have graduated. Sweet, sweet summer vacation.

I now have a Vocational Qualification in Visual Expression. I am also an "ylioppilas", which, apparently, doesn't have an exact equivalent in the English language. So suffice it to say that it basically means I passed the Matriculation Examination and was declared a graduate today. I got/had to wear the student cap and it gave me a slight headache. I hate that hat already, lol.

I also got a scholarship/grant/thing of 75 euros from my vocational school. It doesn't say what I've done to deserve it, just that it originates from some electronics company. I can only assume it's because I do well with computers. The Upper Secondary gave me recognition in the form of a book, for having the best grades out of all this spring's double-graduates. I also got a book from "Suomi-Amerikka Yhdistysten Liitto", which, oddly, doesn't seem to have an English name, but translates to something like "The Union of Finland-America Associations", for being good at English.

I guess that's all for now. Back to slacking off by Monday, haha.

Any suggestions for sounds that could be associated with rage?

I'm doing an installation that, fore the time being at least, I've labelled "Rage". Basically it's my way of venting my frustration over having to take this course, lol.

Anyway, it involves sounds of anger, and I've already recorded sounds of breaking glass and clanging kitchenware, as well as screaming (mine and [livejournal.com profile] tuinen's) and a series of more or less anxious sounds produced on a syhthesizer (and occasionally accomppanied by more screaming, lol). Problem is, the ideal situation would be to have at least an hour's worth of sounds (preferrably longer), and I can only scream so many times before I go hoarse. I guess I could always record some crocodile tears - I can actually be pretty convincing - to include the more fragile side of anger or something. I don't know.

Incidentally, for the video part, suggestions of violent actions executable by a single person (and that don't involve actually hurting anyone) are also welcome.

Man I love Wednesdays. :D
All I have on Wednesday is

8.00-9.15: Religion in Finland

9.15-10.55: Nothing (what do you call a blank in your timetable in English, anyway? In Finnish we call it "hyppytunti" [=skip/jump class])

10.55-12.10 English

And then I get to go home, whee.

And today's religion class was awesome. We visited the local Orthodox Christian church and it was small and pretty and we had to stand for well over an hour but it was still totally cool.

So I need to read a book for my Finnish class. No biggie, done it a thousand times before, but I am having trouble choosing from the list of books given to us.

So far, I've narrowed it down to the following books:

- Treasure Island
- Around the World in 80 Days
- The World According to Garp
- (something by Shakespeare, possibly Love's Labour's Lost, which is one of my personal favourites of his work)
- (something by Arthur Conan Doyle [Sherlcok Holmes is one of my personal heroes])
- Don Quijote
- Grapes of Wrath

I'm leaning towards Treasure Island ATM, because when I was little, I used to have a children's audio book version of it, complete with quite simple but nonetheless impressive illustrations of pirates backstabbing each other and dead bodies in various states of decomposition. It was always my favourite audio book.

In any case, if any of you on my flist have read any of these books, please to be telling me why I should or should not read them.

EDIT: lol I was like the last one to get to choose and most of the ones that sounded interesting were taken right away. Oh, well, according to my teacher, The World According to Garp is a fabulous book. I hope he's right.

I'm going to Denmark in December!

Okay, so the apllication hasn't been approved yet, technically, but according to the vice-principal, it's only a formalty and I was approved long before I even filed the application.

In other news, I've also secured an internship for sometime during the spring. Life is beautiful!

Seriously, I've been in a freakishly good mood for the past couple of weeks. So many good things have happened lately. ♥
mipeltaja: (Oh noes!)
This day did not begin well.

First of all, I overslept. Just enough to miss the last bus on which I would've made it to Vocational in time. Then the band of my wristwatch broke. Once I got to vocational, things went rather smoothly up until luch, after which I found that a classmate had stolen my chair. Being the kind of person who will apologise for being in your way if you break into my home and want to steal the table I'm sitting at, I waited for her to leave, but eventually had to ask her to kindly give back my chair so that I may continue my (nonexistent) work.

In other news, tablets are unbelievably expensive. I want to get one for my laptop, but apparently everything that isn't Wacom is crap, and everything that is Wacom costs a fortune compared to the others. I suppose I'll have to get a small, simple Wacom from somewhere. The Wacom website test tells me I need and Intuos. Of course, it might be because those appear to be the most expensive of the lot.

Incidentally, my animated gif icons go extremely fast when viewed on a Mac. It's amusing.

Great, I go back to the Upper Secondary tomorrow, and I can't remember which psychology class I'm supposed to be in. I could check if I could only get in my email, but for whatever reason, the server seems to be down. Just my luck.

On the other hand, my drawing teacher got really excited when I told her about my dream of becoming an animator. In all honesty, a dream is all I've been treating it as, albeit one that made me apply to an art school. She, however, decided that from now on, everything I do in Vocational school will be aiming towards animation in one way or another. I suppose it's nice, though, to have someone tell you you can realize your dreams. Who knows, maybe I'd have a brilliant future as an animator.

I am never going to get this art history essay done by tomorrow. I've had a week to do it, but true to my nature, I left it to the last possible moment. I had all of Monday off and I did mean to start doing it yesterday, but I never got past the heading. I did borrow half my weight of books from the library, though, and one of them has previously been borrowed for a similar assignment, because everything essential for my essay has been underlined or highlighted in that book. II'm positive I looked totally hardcore while hauling the books to the car, too. It's like my entire being said "Art history is SERIOUS BUSINESS and I'm going to get into some SERIOUS studying now, yo".

Eh, at least I have Thursday off, too.

EDIT: at almost midnight, I'm one and a half pages short of the minimum length. Little less than one page if I use all the allowed image space. There is only one question I have not managed to anwer in any way yet: the differences and similarities between gotchic and romanic cathedrals. I keep readin these parts in the books over and over and I'm just not getting anything out of it. The intarweb isn't being of much help, either.

Oh, well, back to work.

I forgot to mention the day before yesterday: I have a laptop.

I have no idea why I needed one, but since my school so generously offered to let me use one free of charge (all I have to do is to bring it back every summer for updates and give it back when I graduate unless I'm willing to purchase it at that point for muhc less money than a new one would have cost me) I thought I might as well take it and figure something to do with it. Of course now I'll be able to look all business-like while writing slash, which is cool.

Ok, that philosophy essay? So not getting done.

Unless I can get myself off the computer, that is.

ETA: Ok, so shortly after writing this, I actually did write it. But still... that game looks so shiny... Trust me when I say I'm amazing myself with how excited I got upon seeing that intro thing, because I've never had that reaction to a game before.
mipeltaja: (Default)
OMG this time next week I'll be in Spain OMG! O_O

And I haven't even started searching for my summerwear yet. Not to mention that I'm supposed to be studying French and/or writing that philosophy essay. Or better yet, sleeping. And yet, LJ.
