So.. I came home early this morning. Puerto Rico was all right, though I hardly tanned at all.
I have little of note to say about the vacation, because it was just like you'd expect a vacation in the Canary Islands to be; sun, haggling and sunburns. Trying to find souvenirs proved to be a well nigh impossible task, but I managed to find something for everyone.
Also, a total of two land-dwelling isopods were caught in our hotel room, one by my cousin (I was travelling with her, her mother and her stepfather), who stepped on it and proceeded to freak the fuck out until I killed it and threw it away, and I spotted another on the morning we left, right by my cousin's chair. I've never seen a girl cross the room so fast before.

On the flight back they showed Ice Age 2, which was much better than I'd have expected from a sequel though I guess me secretly being a sucker for Diego made me more likely to like the movie than a casual observer. Also I found it inappropriately appropriate that the "Juice Leskinen" channel in the plane's radio was dead throughout the entire flight. - And for the non-Finns in the audience: Juice Leskinen recently died which is probably why there was an entire channel for his music in the first place.

So. I just saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest.

I'm not going to lie; I went for the Depp. And the Nighy, once I found out he was in it, of course, but mainly for the Depp. Never expected it to be a decent movie, and now I'm not sure if it appearing to be fairly decent was because I had expected less or because it actually was decent.

Also, Kiera Knightley confuses me. I look at her and see a girl who isn't actually all that pretty (though not ugly, either). Then I lean back and notice that she is quite pretty. Which would make her.. pretty in a not terribly pretty way? Yeah, confused.

This is not happening.

This is NOT happening.

This is not happening.

At this very moment, Finland is in the lead in the votes of Eurovision song contest.
Now, for those of you who have no idea of the significance of this: Finland has never ranked higher than 6th. Someone once said that the day Finland wins that contest, Hell is going to freeze over.

Yeah, someone call the Devil, I think he's in need of a extra blanket or two right about now.

Even if we don't win, we already have way more points than we've ever had before.

I just had to make an entry, because none of us Finns expected anything like this. We expected to do better than usual, sure, but to do this well... really now.

In case anyone is interested, this is the song and the band we sent out there this year.

ETA: OMGWTFBBQ THEY WON! WE WON! FINLAND ACTUALLY WON! THIS CANNOT BE FOR REAL, FINLAND ISN'T SUPPOSED TO WIN THAT CONTEST! UNBELIEVABLE!

*ahem* sorry for the capslock of doom there, but this'll take a few moments to sink in. Someone tell me it didn't really happen. We can't afford to host the contest next year! Ok, we can, but we really can't.

I- I just... I'll go to sleep and see if the world has righted itself by the time I wake up.

Woe.

May this day, February 10th 2006, be marked down in the history books as the day the Internet let me down.
Granted, there was that incident with the architecture of cathedrals a few months back - in October, I think - but that was somewhat understandable.
On this day, however, I have failed to locate the lyrics to a song I had believed to be known to pretty much every Finn. Back in grades 3-6, we used to sing it all the time at school. It's a nice, patriotic song about how Finns are gutsy and I'm certain I've heard it on the radio once or twice. That is, in the times that there was other stuff on the radio than the newest singles of Britney/Robbie/Evanescence/Antti Tuisku/Nightwish/whatever.

Well, I went to see Goblet of Fire on Saturday. I did a lot of complaining, naturally.

lj cut because it seemed appropriate )

All in all, it is the best movie of the series so far, and just because I mainly complain doesn't mean I didn't love it.

So, I went to see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Saturday. I must say I was rather disappointed. The entire movie seemed somewhat lacking. I don't know what it is, really, I was just.. expecting something more, I guess. I think Zaphod's heads were all wrong. Aren't they supposed to be able to look at each other? I didn't like the dolphin song, either. Made me feel like I was watching a Disney animated movie like Little Mermaid or something.

I suppose the movie was funny, though. Judging by the bursts of laughter from the row behind me, anyway. I'd already heard every funny joke, of course, since they're in the book, so they didn't catch me by surprise.

I'm only 2/3 through Life, the Universe and Everything, so of course I don't know what happens to Arthur and Trillian later on, and I don't know squat about any other version out there, but I was a bit annoyed by what happened at the end. Eh, maybe I still haven't got over the suffocating amount of romance in HBP, but why does the guy always have to get the girl, huh?

Anyway, Marvin is still lovable as always. What is there not to like about Marvin? And Alan's voice could only make it better. Bill Nighy got a private little inward squee out of me, too. Honestly, all that guy need to do is show his face and I'm already in a better mood. Marvin and Slartibartfast, they made the experience worth it.

Other things I've done lately include playing Tekken 5 to buy every single extra costume. I bought Ganryu's extra costume and it looked so stupid I thought I'd make him work to make up for the loss. In other words, I opened the Arcade mode and started going through Ganryu's move list - I can't believe I've never done that before, not even in T2 or TTT - and damned if he doesn't rock.

I suck at playing T5 Bryan. I can't get higher than a Warlord. And to make it worse, I can beat any Tekken Lord with Heihachi (who is, I think, an Expert at this point).

...In other news, I don't think I like Anna's voice actor. I mean, who talks like that? The only instance where Anna sounds believable that I can think of is Nina's stage 7 fight with her, after Nina has won ("YOU BITCH"). Look at Nina, her VA sounds good. Although I think both our Irish ladies sound rather American, but hey, what do I know.

And while on the topic of T5 voice actors, Bryan's sounds overly dramatic at times. It's not a bad voice for him, but "I'll hafta thank you for giving me... POWAAH" makes me giggle every time. Other than that, the VAs range from good enough to effing awesome.

And man I hate Jacks and animals. T4 took a step in the right direction when it didn't have a Jack.

Lastly, I'm greatly amused by the wiggling female asses in the customise mode. Seriously, not that I mind one way or another if they want to make the girls' bodies bouncy, but is that even realistic with women as fit as these?

I am going to be one poor girl...

I was going to buy the new Batman/Superman yesterday, but as I was about to walk to the cashier with a copy, my eyes caught an awfully familiar figure in the cover of another comic book. It was Bearclaw. And since they apparently originally translated only books 1 to 5 of Elfquest to Finnish, I had to buy it. Now, add the monthly One Piece to that and I'm suddenly spending all my money on comics. I suppose I'm going to have to lay off the superheroes for the time being. I'm not comfortable spending almost 20€ on comics every month.

One Piece volume 5 came out in Finnish today. I was relieved to find they kept Johnny and Yosaku's "aniki". It would have been super weird if they didn't call the crewmembers that.

Anyway, I was thinking about Harry Potter stuff last night.

HBP spoilers, people )

[Insert incoherent babbling about finding a copy of HBP in the most popular bookstore in town. At noon, no less. Also insert woe about the fact that it is little sister's birthday and assumed inability of reading and sociliasing at the same time prevents yours truly from reading all the time]

I have just switched to Mozilla Firefox.

Actually, I'm not too sure if "switched" is the right word, since I'm more than likely to just open Internet Explorer the next time I want to go online anyway, as I won't get rid of it just yet. Force of habit and all that... At any rate, I've heard so many people tell me that the solution to many of the internet-related problems I've been experiencing would be to ditch IE for Firefox, so I decided it wouldn't hurt to try.

Also, I realized today that my grandmother is really loud over the phone. I called her from the bus today to ask if I could take some pictures of her for school, and even though I sat in the far back of the bus, I had this feeling that the driver could hear her every word.
...he probably couldn't, but it didn't stop me from thinking he could.
