We take a break from your regularly scheduled One Piece fangirling and RL woes to bring you my thoughts on yaoi Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix: The Movie. a.k.a Harry Potter and the Angst a.k.a Harry Potter and the CAPSLOCK OF RAGE.
Well, first of all, I loved Luna, Umbridge and Bellatrix. Umbridge didn't look even remotely the way I always imagined her, but damned if the actress didn't know what she was doing. I also have some thoughts on Bellatrix's wardrobe, but again, the actress was good. I liked Tonks but... am I wrong or isn't she supposed to be a bit older? And the guy who plays Dudley is growing up to be an attractive lad, too.
Second of all, way to fly about in plain sight in the middle of a city, where any number of muggles might have spotted you, Harry and rescuers. Weren't the wizards supposed to not reveal themselves to muggles five minutes ago? You know, when Harry got expelled?
And then there'sAlan Snape, gorgeous as always, but I've always thought Movie!Snape is too nice. If you can call that nice. Maybe "not unpleasant and ambiguous enough" would be more appropriate. In any case, I doubt that has anything to do with Alan Rickman, who has been in enough evil roles to prove that he could pull of Snape as he is in the books. And though I do get a kick out of him hitting people over the head with books, I honestly don't see IC Snape doing that. And whatever happened to "Potter, when I want nonsense shouted at me I shall give you a Babbling Beverage."? A simple "I have no idea" is the most suspicious thing you can say when people suspect you of having a very good idea indeed.
And Sirius's death. Was wrong in so many ways. The veil is described in the book as "a tattered black curtain or veil, which, despite the complete stillness of the cold surrounding air, was fluttering very slightly as though it had just been touched", not as resembling a Stargate event horizon. Also, Bellatrix was shooting "jet[s] of red light" at Sirius. True, the colour of spell that actually hits Sirius is not specified, but it's referred to as "the second jet of light" right after a red one, so it's reasonable to expect that that spell was red as well, and Harry would have noticed a green light, I'm sure. What I'm trying to say here is: no Avada Kedavra allowed.
And Sirius "sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch", none of that fancy business in the movie. D: How hard is it to just leave the fancy 3D special effects out of a scene for once?
I actually only got back from the movie theatre about an hour ago, but I already had the time to complain about it to my sister, who, as you may recall, is currently in ENGLAND. In my defense, I called her for an entirely different reason and we only talked about OotP for a few second after she told me she'd gone to see it, too.
Also, what was with the Death Eaters and Aurors turning into half-ghostly things and gliding around? I don't recall that kind of magic anywhere in the books.
Still, in my opinion OotP is one of the best, if not the best Harry Potter movies, even if they had to leave a lot out. *still wishes Lockhart would've somehow made the cut*
I liked the way a lot of things were done, and apart from the death scene, my biggest complaints during the movie had to do with inaccurate subtitling, of all things.
If I could change one thing about these movies, however, I would tone down the special effects. You have a bunch of great actors, you don't need to add in magic where it was not present.
And next Saturday, I plan on cheerfully marching to the bookstore in hopes that there are still copies of Deathly Hallows left. Great thing about living in the countryside of Finland: Bookstores don't open at midnight and half of the people wanting to read the book will wait for the translated edition anyway. :D
